Hi, I have an old Dell computer and it was working fine. But accidentally it fall down on the firs from the table and get broken. Then I purchased a New Samsung RC520 Laptop with 640 GB Hard disk.
I tried to copy all data from my old computer’s hard drive. But when I plug in the Hard drive then it shows “Need to Format Drive Before You can Use it”. As I saved all my important files in it so I don’t want to format the external hard drive. Is there any possible solution to fix the Need to format drive error.
Hello, There are many ways to fix need to format drive error. But it is recommended that before performing any operation on it fist take backup of the disk.
Reboot the laptop and then plug in your external hard drive some time this error may be removed by just rebooting.Plug in you hard drive on to other systems because some this error occurs due to hardware and software compatibility issue.
Hi, you can use check disk utility to resolve Need to format drive error. Follow the steps given below.
As you inserted an image and it shows that your hard drive is G.
1. Go to Run and type cmd.
2. Type the command chkdsk G: /r
3. If a pop appears for recover file simply proceed by selecting yes.
4. If the above command does not fix the issue, type chkdsk G: /f command.

In this situation you nee a windows hard drive data recovery software. To get back your erased data from external hard drive. Once the backup of data completed. Format the hard disk and simply you fixed need to format disk error.
