    Hi,

We have migrated from Microsoft online services to Office 365 recently. I took backup of my old .ost files but I could not convert my .ost file to pst file. When I changed account only new mails were listing and I am unable to add the existing .ost file to this account. How do I get back my old emails?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Barry

    Hello Barry,

Did you configure your Office 365 account in Outlook and tried to migrate your old ost file to Office 365?
Please refer these steps and check if the old ost emails can be moved to your mailbox on Office 365 successfully:
    1. Open Outlook with your old ost file and check if you are able to access emails from that old ost.
    2. Add a new Office 365 account into Outlook.

PS: Please make sure you don’t modify settings of the old account.
    Configure E-Mail in Outlook 2010

    3. Copy emails from Inbox of your old email account to folders under Office 365 mailbox from Outlook.
    4. Wait till these emails are synchronized back to Exchange Online.
    5. Remove your old email account from Outlook.

I hope this solution will easily import OST to Office 365 account.

    Thank you
    Eddie

    Hello Eddie,

Thank you for reply. But unluckily this solution did not work for me.
Let me brief you about what I did.
I did the backup of outlook before migrating to Office 365 by copying this folder, C:\Users\Barry\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. It contains a file Outlook.ost and some other files. I think that this is the ost file which contains my previous mails. Then I launched outlook client, removed my old account and created new account. After it was done, all my previous emails and folders were gone from outlook and it synchronized with my new mailbox. I have even tried to add outlook.ost to this account, but outlook prompted that this ost is assigned for another mail box. Also after configuring the new mail, I am receiving this error message :Connect to autodiscover-RED001.mail.microsoftonline.com enter user name and password.. RED001.mail.microsoftonline.com was the previous mailbox. Now I tried to enter the old password, but unable to connect.
Instead of copying the folder, I should have created a backup using export/import option in outlook and create a pst file. I made this mistake and that’s why I am facing all these difficulties now.
Please suggest a method to this problem.

    Thank you in advance.
    Barry

    Hello Barry,

I am sorry for your old ost data loss.

This happened might be because OST files are encrypted with a unique key derived from the mailbox’s unique entry and also Microsoft doesn’t support changing the OST file directly.
Maybe you can try and see if you still have the profile from which the OST file was generated. If the profile still exists, then copy the ost file to that profile and try to recover the data.
This will also resolve your issue to transfer OST to Office 365 account.
Please feel free to ask if you face any further issues or any other issues related to Office 365.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

While searching solution for your query I came across a method to migrate OST to Office 365 with the help of a third party software. I have read the reviews of these products and it shows that many of the users were satisfied.

Firstly, you need to convert ost to pst and if the ost is corrupted or there are deleted messages from OST files, then I suggest you to use this software to convert such ost to pst.
    https://www.systoolsgroup.com/ost-recovery.html

Then after you have converted the OST to PST successfully, then you can migrate this PST to your Office 365 account using this product:
    https://www.systoolsgroup.com/import-to-office-365/

Once all your PST files are imported to Office 365 account then your problem will be resolved.

PS: Try this software at your own risk because I am posting this on behalf of user reviews. You can use the trial version and let us know if your issue got resolved.

    Regards,
    Dexter
