My main PST crossed 45GB and Outlook has become painfully slow with random hangs. I want to split it into smaller files, ideally by year, without losing folder structure. Built-in archive keeps timing out.

Past 40GB most Outlook versions get unstable, so splitting is the right call.

1
Use SysTools Split PST. It divides by size, year, folder or sender.
2
For your case pick split by year. Each output PST keeps the original folder tree.
3
Attach the year files you actually need in Outlook and archive the rest to storage.

45GB by year should produce 6 to 8 healthy sized files and the slowdown disappears once your live PST drops under 10GB.

Split into 7 yearly files. Outlook opens instantly again. Solved.
