Leaving a job where I used Outlook for Mac. I want my personal calendar entries in Apple Calendar before the account closes.

Outlook for Mac's export seems to produce OLM files, not anything Apple Calendar reads. What are the actual steps?

You are right that File, Export in Outlook for Mac writes OLM, an archive only Outlook itself reopens. For Apple Calendar you want ICS, and the trick is that Outlook for Mac does ICS by drag and drop rather than through any menu.

1
In Outlook for Mac open the Calendar view and switch to List view so events show as rows, this makes multi select possible.
2
Select the events to take: Cmd+A for everything in the view, or filter the list by date range first if you only want future items.
3
Drag the selection onto your Desktop or a Finder folder. Each event lands as an .ics file.
4
In Apple Calendar, File, Import, select all the .ics files at once and pick the destination calendar. Recurring events import with their recurrence rules.

Do this before the account is disabled, since a closed work account can take its calendar data with it on the next sync. And keep an OLM export too as a belt and braces copy, if you ever need it on Windows an OLM to PST converter such as SysTools OLM Converter reads it without any Mac involved.

List view plus drag worked, 340 events as ics files imported into Apple Calendar in one go. Kept the OLM aside as you suggested.
