I found a file with the .pfc extension on my system. I think it belongs to the AOL email application but I know very little about this format. How do I open an AOL PFC file? I want to view the data inside it.

Hi Kerry. You are right, the PFC file belongs to AOL Desktop. It stands for Personal Filing Cabinet and it stores your emails, contacts and bookmarks.

Two ways to get at the data: import the PFC file into another email application, or sync your AOL account with any email client and let it pull the mail down.

I can't sync the AOL account because I don't have the credentials. I tried importing the file but the import fails every time. Is there another way to view the emails?

In that case a dedicated PFC viewer tool is your best bet. It reads the file directly so you don't need the account login or a working import.

Which tool would you suggest for viewing data from an AOL PFC file?

SysTools AOL PFC Viewer opens PFC files without the AOL application installed. It loads files of any size and shows emails with their attachments. I have used it on PFC files over 5GB without a hiccup.
