I accidentally hit Format on my camera's SD card instead of deleting a few photos. It's a 64GB SanDisk Extreme with about 1,400 photos on it from a trip to Japan and South Korea.

Haven't touched the card since I realised what happened. Running Windows 11. Is there any chance of getting the photos back?

Good instinct stopping immediately. That's actually the most important thing you could have done.

Formatting doesn't erase the photos. It clears the file system index so the camera thinks the card is empty, but the image data stays in place until something new records over it. Since you haven't written anything, most of it should still be there.

Don't put the card back in the camera and don't copy anything to it. Connect it to your PC with a card reader and run SysTools Photo Recovery. It does a deep sector scan and recovers JPG, RAW and video files even off formatted cards.

Running the scan now. Already showing 1,387 files and it's not done yet. Very hopeful.

Recovered 1,391 photos. All of them intact, RAW files included. Genuinely shocked this worked. Saving to an external drive, not back to the SD card. Thank you Edwin.
