    Hello Everyone,

I hope I am at right place for this query

My boss had hand over an Old hard drive of his laptop & asked me to recover emails from the hard disk. The emails are of Outlook, although he warned me about the issue in hard drive. But when I connected it with my laptop it was working fine.

After googling I came to know that Outlook store its email in PST format thus I searched for .pst file from explorer window in my laptop but there is no PST file & returning search result 0.

All I want is to recover emails of Outlook from this external drive & get all email back to him, in a USB drive. Is there any application to recover emails from the hard drive?  I appreciate in advance for the valuable help.

Could you please tell me which version of Outlook has been used? And also let me tell you one thing that PST file not only store emails, but also the contacts, calendars, tasks, notes & journal.

It’s Window7 machine’s hard drive. But I don’t have the confirmation about the version of MS Outlook. After exploring within folder I found Outlook folder at these location:
    C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
    C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache
But at first location I found only .srs & .xml file
& at second location there were some .dat file
And after checking the size of these file I could understand that it couldn’t be the email storage of Outlook.

Try to search again your PST file at this location once: C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
The file could be hidden, first unhide the files & folders
    Or
You could find your Outlook PST file using PST Finder

Yes I am able to find PST file in both way. But using the second way I found more PST files as compare to the first method.

Yes this program check the entire drive to find your PST files. Other than default location of Outlook data storage, it will extract & show the PST file.

Really helpful method, but still there are some challenges. How to unpack these PST files & store them in a readable format in the hard disk? Or am I going to need to move these pst files into a pen drive to give him, and then copy them over to another Outlook install, where he could open them there?

You could use two methods to read those PST files
First method is, you need to run the Import method to check emails in Outlook.

Or the other method is to install the freeviewer for PST file.

    http://www.freeviewer.org/pst/

You would be able to check emails without MS Outlook installation
