I have been using Windows 8 on my system and I have been facing problems while restoring old BKF backup files from my old Windows XP system. Every time I try to run NTBackup utility to retrieve data from BKF files I am getting the message “An inconsistency was encountered in the requested backup file”. Can someone help me to get rid of this error?

Hi, nThis can be due to the reason that your BKF files have become corrupted. BKF file corruption may have been caused due to any one or more of the following reasons. n
    n
  • Sudden and improper system shutdown
  • n
  • Virus Attacks
  • n
  • Missing Catalog Files
  • n
  • Hard Disk Crash event
  • n
  • or Hardware/Software Malfunction
  • n
nnDid your XP system go through any of the above-mentioned events?

Now that you have explained the reasons, I think the corruption in my BKF file may have been caused due to a Virus infection which I suffered from a long time back. Can anything be done manually to get rid of this corruption in BKF file?

Hey Lincoln! nnI am sorry to inform you that it is not much you can do manually to remove corruption from your BKF files as there are no methods that guarantee to get back data from damaged BKF files. Alternatively, you can try and make use of a third party software known as BKF Repair Tool to restore BKF files in various versions of Windows, having any level of corruption. In this way, you can remove inconsistency error in BKF file easily. nnYou can find more information about this here: http://www. datarecovery. institute/remove-inconsistency-error-in-bkf/nnLet me know if this works for you.

Hello Edwin, nI tried the software solution mentioned in the blog post you provided above and I must say it helped me get rid of the Inconsistency error quite smoothly. Due to this, I was able to restore BKF File data in my Windows 8 system effectively. Thanks for all your help!
