When I delete a message, I get the following error: “An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox “(null)”.” What’s more, the message does delete, but it doesn’t end up in the trash, or anywhere for that matter- it’s lost forever. Anybody know a fix?
If you are having an issue with moving emails to the Trash, I would suggest rebuilding the affected mailboxes, in this case, both the source (where the message was when you tried to delete it) and the Trash. You can try to rebuild mailboxes to resolve “An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox “(null)” by following the steps:
step 1: Firstly, to Rebuild a mailbox.
Step 2: Select a Mailbox, then choose Mailbox > Rebuild.
Step 3: When you Rebuild Mailboxes for IMAP and Exchange accounts then messages and attachments are downloaded again from the server to your Mac. Your mailbox appears empty until the download is complete.kerry morris, thanks, but unfortunately that doesn’t help.
Christopher RigaudParticipantYou can also Try this Method.
Step 1: First of all, close all the applications. Then, launch the Apple Mail program.
Step 2:On the Task bar, click Mail tab >> Quit Mail
Step 3:Now hold the Shift key and launch Apple Mail program again. Try the safe mode if Mac doesn’t end starting up
Step 4:Check how it responds in the safe mode.
Step 5:If you find no more issues, you can now reboot it normally.
Step 6:Finally, try testing in your own user’s account.I have the same problem, If anyone finds fix please let me know.,
I experienced the same error “An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox“(null)”.. I rebuilt the mailbox but that did not solve the problem. I deleted the account and set up again. No problems after that. Maybe it will also work for you.
dexter_morgan I’m glad that worked for you. I didn’t want to do this because my account is through iCloud, and deleting the Mail portion of it means disconnecting all the other iCloud services and then reconnecting them. Please tell me another solution.
I found a way to fix this. I am assuming you’re using an IMAP account.
Step 1: Firstly Expand the mail account
step 2: Select the folder that you want to use for Trash
step 3: GOTO Mailbox menu>> Trash Mailbox.
You can do the same for sent Messages. Once I did this, the message stopped appearing. This worked for me! I also had noticed a sent message disappearing. I fixed this the same way by selecting the Drafts, Sent, Junk and Trash mailboxes that appeared in the “Inbox” as lists under the malfunctioning mailboxes, and individually assigning them properly in the “Use this mailbox” menu.
Hi, Barry! The solution given by you didn’t work for me. Now, what should I do? I have tried many methods but none of them worked for me. Now I am tired of this error. Please tell me a direct solution because I don’t want to try these methods. If there is a direct method to solve this particular problem then tell me?
OK, Then you can download SysTools Mac MBOX Converter Tool. By using this Tool, all the disappear Mails will be open in this Software. Select the Mails & folders and export it to EML. All the disappear mail will be open in this Software. Then this message “An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox“(null)” will never show again.
Hey! Thank you so much for the help. I tried its demo version & it successfully migrated my files. After such a performance I bought this software so that I can work to migrate my office data as well.
