Hi, I have been using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC from past few months to read my PDF documents. But, recently I got a case file in the PDF file format containing 50 pages. I need to analyze the file and find the selected words present in the document. So, I searched those words by using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. However, I can easily perform this task but, when I tried to highlight the words by using the highlighter tool it appears to be greyed out. I don’t know the exact reason behind the problem. I need to analyze the file on an urgent basis. Can anyone tell me why highlight tool not working Adobe Acrobat Reader DC?

Hi, I am completely agreed with Barry, it is necessary to check the PDF file security first.

No need to worry dexter follow the steps given below to check PDF security:

1- Open the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
2- Then, open the PDF case file
3- Click the lock icon present there
4- After that, click on Permissions Detail option
5- Under the security tab, all permissions are listed
6- Check comment security is allowed or not
7- If it is “Not Allowed” then the file is protected

Thank you so much, Barry I read the blog and used SysTools PDF Unlocker Tool to remove security from Adobe document. Now, I can easily use the highlight tool in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC without any difficulty.
