    Hi;

    When I attempt to open outlook I get an error:
    Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Documents and Settings\Sabrina\local settings\application data\Microsoft\outlook \outlook.pst. Quit outlook and all mail-enabled applications and the use the inbox repair tool (scanst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file for more information about the inbox repair tool see help.

    I have attempted to repair the .pst file using scanpst but it fails. Do you know another utility preferably a free one which I can use to repair the file.

    Hello Barry,

    Try to open Outlook in safe mode because undeniably plug-ins always be the utmost reason of Outlook’s dysfunctioning. Try out the given command in the run box:

    “outlook.exe /safemode”

    Question further, if you do not get any solution.

    Cheers
    Michael

    Hi Michael,

    I tried to open Microsoft Outlook in safe mode, but the problem still persists. So, would you like to suggest me another solution to fix this issue.

    Hi,

    If Microsoft Outlook opens in safe mode and the issue still persists, then try to remove add-ins by Clicking on the “File” tab >> “Options” >> “Add-Ins”>> Select “Com Add-ins” and click on “Go” >> Clear all check boxes in the list & click “OK” button >> Restart “Microsoft Outlook”(normally, not in safe mode).

    I agreed with “Eddie”.Instead of that, you can also create a new user profile in MS Outlook to fix this issue.
    See here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/829918
    Even after creating a new user profile, if the problem remains same, then reset the navigation pane.

    To do so: Press “Window Key” + “R” >>Type “outlook.exe<space>/resetnavpane” in run dialog box.
