    Hi,

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird for a long time. I have a number of emails in EML file format that are saved on my system. I don’t know how to read them. Can anyone tell me how can I read EML files without Thunderbird email application?

    Hi Eddie,

As you said, you are using Thunderbird. Then why don’t you open EML files in Mozilla Thunderbird? You can directly click on the emails and open them in Thunderbird application.

    Hi Dexter,

Yes, I am using Thunderbird and I can open emails that are stored locally on my system. But I do not want to continue with this email application. Please suggest any method to view those emails without Thunderbird.

OK, then you can convert the file extension of the file to .mht and access them through a web browser. It is basically a web page archive format. Follow some steps to do so:

    1. You need to copy all the EML files into a single new folder.
    2. Click on “Tools” button from the Menu and select “Folder Options”.
    3. Now, click on Tab View >> “Hide file extensions for known file types”.
    4. Click on “Apply” button. If it is already active, then click “OK”.
    5. Open the newly created which you have created in the first step. Select and Rename the extension by “.mht”.
    6. Then, click on “Next” button on confirmation prompt. Now, you can view EML files conveniently by double-click on the EML file and it will open in web browser.

I have tried this method. But due to some reason, I am unable to open those files. What would be the reason?

There is a possibility that your EML file may be got corrupt after renaming the file to .mht. You can try any automated solution that will help you to access Thunderbird emails without any data loss.

If you are looking for any secure method to view EML file without Thunderbird, then you can use a free third-party solution i.e. SysTools EML Viewer. There is no loss of data and you can easily view your emails without any hassle.
